I usually use the forum for the older trucks but thought there might be some good advice here.
I have a 54 f100, 239 OHV just so you know what I'm working on.
I have fabbed up a dual exhaust that starts with Sanderson headers to 2 1\4 pipe back to a Flowmaster 40-dual chamber on each side that exits out the side just in front of the rear wheels....where is the best location to install an H-PIPE ??? I think it should go between the motor and mufflers...but should it be closer to the motor side or closer to the mufflers?
I'm just looking to sync the exhaust note a little....dont exspect any big horse ot torque gains.
thanks for any help with proper location.
Ed
I would suggest an X pipe instead of H. And I would put it midway between the mufflers and headers or closer to the headers. That is what I was taught anyways.
Either will work well. Doesnt really matter. For the best install spot, paint a line from the headers back on each pipe. Run the engine, and where the line stops burning away is where you want to put it.
Thanks for the info and advice! Since I am building up from a frame-off and hav'nt fired the engine up I wont be able to do the "burn the paint" type of locating for the crossover pipe.
I'll put it just over 1\2 way (closer to mufflers) just where it will clear the trans...this should work out real well for ground clearance too.
I'm fab'in up some adjustable system hangers using standard 2-1\4 pipe clamps, 1\4 inch steel rod, barrel nuts and threaded rod stock. When done it should give me apx. 1/2 inch of ajustment in 4 directions so I can locate and secure the exhaust tips thru the running boards properly.
