hi Mark, welcome to FTE, the home on the net for Fords!
it seems like he is asking a little too much. but i would work him close to $18000 and jump on it. that is a lot of miles for a 4 year old truck. if it had lower miles and if the body and frame are in good condition, i could see 22-23K. but since it is somewhat dinged up and highER mileage, i wouldnt pay out the butt for it. that said, 105K is about 1/4 of the expected life of the engine. i dont know how the rest of the truck will hold up, but powerstrokes are usually good for 400k miles. get a coolant sample and have it analyzed. also take an oil sample, get that analyzed also. the oil analysis can tell alot about what is happening inside the engine. the coolant check is usually the most-overlooked part of maintenance on powerstrokes. if that is good, chances are that the rest of the truck is in good shape.
just would like to mention that if you do buy a powerstroke, come here and ask, there are tons of threads where people want to know what to do next, and we have all guided them in the right direction. like the instance about the leaking oil from the boots, that is a classic symptom with the stock crankcase breather. alot of guys here reroute the vapors away from the intake, to keep the turbo cleaner, and to prevent the boots from blowing off at high boost. can ruin a day. there are also several other mods (less than $100) that go a long way into the performance and longevity of your truck.
just letting you know, the truck i bought (check my gallery, just scroll over my username) is a 2002 crew cab lariat with 69K miles when i bought it, and i got it for $25K. which is really cheap, it listed for $33K.
Hey Mark,
I picked up my 99.5 crew cab loaded with 59k on it . I gave 24k for mine . A little on the high side .But a very nice truck. I think you can find a better deal! Good luck.
That sounds pricey, but it depends a lot on where your at. The mileage isnt high for a 4 year old truck, but if you are serious, get under it and look for leaks and if there has been any work done to it. Make sure to get a carfax and ask if there are any maintenance records. you can always find a better deal, but if you like it and can get it.......
