i have a 97' Ranger 4.0L. I am trying to decide if i can justify buying a performance muffler. Do you guys have any suggestions of ones you've used that worked and gave you more power? I really want more low end power but its needs more high end too.
I have used a Flowmaster 40 series before on my 2.5L and wasn't very impressed, but then again it was only a 4 cylinder. It also has a K@N filter so maybe the two would work together well.
Flowmaster makes one of the nicest sounding mufflers on the planet IMO. Changing the muffler is more for a nice sound than power. If you put on bigger exhaust front to back and added a high flow cat, you will notice more of a difference but still nothing crazy. You might want to take a look at the magnaflow's as well. Nice mufflers and I like the sound on them as well.
I have a Magnaflow on my 99 2.5L L4. Also with it is an intake. I beat my friend with a 97 Explorer with the 4.0L/Auto and another friend with a 3.slow/auto ranger. But, I do have a 5spd. The sound on the 2.5L is great. I love it.
