If it is from a US truck earlier than around 1960, I think you will have a very hard time deciphering it. I've been told by multiple reliable sources that Ford USA had a fire sometime in the early sixties (year??) that destroyed almost all of the records for earlier trucks.
If I recall correctly, Ford Canada can still send you a build sheet if you have a VIN for a Mercury truck from this era because they still have their records. I contacted Ford USA and asked about a build sheet for my truck (1956 F-250) and was told that the records were not available. I'm assuming the reason is that they were destroyed in the fire.
