Kill switch - SPST?

I'm installing an HEI distributor in my '79, and I'm planning on putting an inline switch on the +12V wire. Its more for emergency use (over-revving engine during my break-in, etc), rather than an actual kill switch that I'll use everytime I leave the car.

Anyway, I was wondering if there was a particular type of switch that I needed. Do I just use a standard SPST switch? Does it have to be a certain type to handle the amperage going to the coil? What is the standard amperage a distributor lead induces? I see 3A, 6A, 15A, 20A, etc toggle switches.

Does the switch itself need to be grounded?

Thanks for any help.

If you could find a link to a particular switch at Radio Shack, Lowes or Home Depot, that would be great!

spst is fine, I like to use a switch good for atleast 20 amps, the smaller ones are generally pretty cheesy. And it does not have to be grounded

I agree, use at least a 10 amp switch. I know on HEI installations, they always warn to use a heavy wire around 14 to 12 guage. The HEI must draw a lot of current.

Here's a switch at radio shack.

Plug in 275-706 in the search box. This switch does have a ground connection, but it's only to make the handle light up. You do not need to hook that terminal up in your application, or any application where you did not worry about the handle lighting up when you turned it on.
