I want to add a brake controller to my E350. I already have a regular flat-4 connector. If I (dealer install) add the controller and related wiring, would I lose the flat-4 for (I think a 7) or can I have both? I will tow both types of trailers....

You can have both. I have a 4/7 pin combo connect on the back of one of my vehicles (a seperate smaller 6 pin too) so I can deal with any kind of trailer. Just jumper over the needed wires to 4 pin receptical. (the combo plug does it for you internally) They also make 7 to 4 pin plug in adaptors that let you use a 4 pin device in a 7 pin socket.
I also have the combo. I don't use the 7 pin currently, but you never know. I think you can pick one up at most auto stores, and the 4-pin can get wired into the rear circuits of the truck's onboard lights if nothing else. I had to do this to get my 77 wired right.
Even if you wire in the 7 pin only they make a nice adapter that plugs into if for a flat 4 pin connection or you can even buy one for the 5 pin round plug.
I have both and find them both handy. On occasion, I tow my flat bed trailer with a load that extends beyond the rear of the trailer. I can plug the trailer into the 7 pin and plug an aux set of lights into the 4 pin when towing this load after dusk. After dark, any load over 4' beyond the rear of the trailer must have lights on the end of the load. I also use them if I exceed width limits (clearance lights).
