Gibbs is pretty slick!

I heard about Gibbs penetrating oil from a lock smith that used it to open very old safes. Said it was great for guns and anything on cars, lubing drill bits etc. The first batch I bought was so slippery, it leaked from every seam and orifice in the can. A few years later, they refined the containers, and I have yet to see one leak. This stuff is absolutely amazing. The only problem I encounted was, I used it to lube my door hinges, and after a couple of years, I found the hinges had moved on the frame of the car! Had to take it to a body shop to reset the hinges. So, I still use it, but far more carefully. Great for keyholes, trigger assemblies, linkage, you name it. Best oil I've ever seen! Hardest part was finding a dealer who sells it.

Is Gibbs a lubricant or solvent? If it's like WD-40, it's a solvent and should not be used as a lubricant. It's been mentioned here before though. Of course, that was too late to save my dirt bike chain and sprockets when I was a kid. What happens if use WD-40 as a lubricant on semi-automatic handgun or rifle?

Sounds almost like the oil my mother used in her industrial sewing machines. I don't know the name, since she would bring a glass jar of it home from her work. The stuff would leak all over the place if you tried storing it in a regular oiling can. She kept it in a jar, and used a glass dropper to put it in her machines. Good stuff. The lubrication lasts for a very long time. I remember my dad always getting yelled at by my mom, when he would 'borrow' some for his tinkering.

Gibbs works great, my brother-in-law sells it wholesale as marine supplies.

It does contain a solvent, I think there's at least alcohol in it now, used to be Xylol.

But boy does it break apart rusty things!!!

Oh, by the way, it is really for penetrating rust, but the oil that remains after the solvent evaporates is very much like ATF.

I am having trouble with a bolt on a manifold.

Been soaking it in pb blaster for a couple of days.

No luck

Do you think this could go beyond pb blaster for penetrating

Thanks

It's worth a shot.

It has a solvent in it that makes the oil VERY thin, so it can get into the rust. I've been amazed quite a few times.
