88 BII won't go into O/D......replaced speed sensor and had a shop test the tranny. o/d and converter lock works when shop tested so they say it is not the tranny. (they grounded the connection and it worked at speed) shifts well in other gears. The shop said they got an error code for coolant temp and egr that it may be interfering with the computer sending the message to shift(?) I ran an output state check and received no codes back. I am replacing the temp sending unit and the oil pressure sending unit as the gauges have been erratic. will clear codes and retest and am waiting for egr to come in. comments and insights greatly appreciated. And this site has been a great help. Thanks Nathan

Reason: removed email line...
check out the egr solidniod and egr valve. Im not sure if that is going to cuase a shift error, but i do know the egr works only at criusing speeds on the highway typically the same speed overdrive is normally used- so it may interfere with somthing
Update....replaced ECT sensor and as Ken said it will not let the o/d and T/C lockup work if it has failed. It senses that the engine is cold and prevents the signal....according to the Haynes manual. So it is replaced and what a job that was... a very tiny spot to wiggle around in. Brought the truck up to operating temp with a short drive....still not shifting to O/D. Came home and pulled the codes, got 11 on the KOEO test, showed 41 51 67 on continous memory test (forgot to erase them before the drive...duh). erased them then ran the test again...11 the KOER came back with 41...HEGO(HO2S) sensor voltage low/system lean. Just replaced the O2 sensor 'bout a week ago.
So that is where i stand right now, and not having a heated place to work and it being -2 with a windchill of -10 or better i decided to leave the rest until tomorrow. Other than that i am having a ball and lovin my BII. Thanks again guys.....Nathan. Will keep you all posted on the final answer....

Reason: wording
Well......we are still under the influence of the Nor' Easter. So I won't be driving today due to 6" of snow on the roads and winds up to 60mph so the road test will have to wait until later.
Yes Ken ..the pinpoint test for 41 would be appreciated. Will I need any special tools?
I have another question...At this time my transfer case is in 4H. Can't get to 2H due to a 3" body lift and I need to expand the opening for the shifter to reach all ranges. How does the shift handle come off? Could this situation be a part of the O/D problem? Thanx again guys...and I look forward to hearing from you Ken.
On your BII year BII, the EEC-IV computer doesn't know transfer case position, so being in 4H shouldn't effect 3-4 shift operation.
Been a while since I've seen the actual pinpoint test, but, for most O2 sensor codes you will need a fuel pressure gauge to measure the fuel pressure.
Among simple things to check for you no OD/TCC question, have you checked to make sure the plug is plugged into the transmission (drivers side just above the pan)?
