After having my truck broken into twice with a screwdriver in the old keyhole, I am considering changing the exterior door latches to the ones without lock provisions and rely on the key fob or the touch pad. has anyone tried this or does it seem like a reasonable solution to such an easy theft technique?
by the way ,I don`t think i`m offering any secrets to thieves with this post, but if I am please feel free to edit.
Doug, I did this to my truck months ago and haven't had any problems. I have the keypad on the door just in case the fob dies, and one of these days I am going to put in some jump studs behind the bumper or someplace easily accessable just in case both batteries happen to go dead.
I've had keyless entry in my trucks since '99. Only once did I had to use the key in that time. And that was just a transmitter battery which I knew was going bad and didn't change right away.
If you put jump studs somewhere outside the truck I don't see how you could have any problems. (I've never gone that far myself, but if you wanted to be really safe)

What are Jump Studs? I would like to know, as I am planning on changing the front door handles to some with no locks.
A theif can still get in. they simply insert a screw driver inbetween the door and the handle and bend the lock rod. The door then opens. No secret about that.

If you swap handles for some without the key hole, then you won't have a lock rods. If they want in bad enough, it doesn't matter what we do, they will get in.
I am with everyone that putting in handles without locks on them would be beneficial. If I were going to do it, I'd put the battery studs in like others mentioned otherwise you would end up like the Tourag (sp?) owner with a dead battery. In the Toureag the battery is under the power seat, I wonder how they intended you to get to the battery to jump it if the battery is dead and the seat won't move?
Just remember on some of these trucks the remote entry doesn't work while the truck is running. I found this out the hard way when I locked my truck with it running, and got out with the remote. Luckily I had a key underneath, but I had to crawl under in snow/slush to get it.
there are many good reasons to mayby not change the door handles ,but in the nortwest it never really gets cold enough to worry about running the batteries dead. I`m tired of these dirtbags thinking that it is going to be so easy to get in. if they know what they are doing , it probably looks like a normal entry. also , if you get out with the truck running and the FOB in hand , you`ll never do it again!(I did it with a supercrew.)PITA)
