Check out my new album in my gallery "Two Old Fords". The wrecker is at our shop and was acquired by my brother when he offered to help clean up some land south of here. The cab-and-chassis is sitting at the Ford dealership in McRae, Georgia.
The main differance is in the badging on the hood and header panel. A 1951 has the FORD lettering on the nosepiece of the hood and the V-8 emblem on the header panel. The size designation is found on a single "spear" down each side of the hood that has both FORD and F-whatever on it.
The 52's have either a V-8 or IL-6 badge on the nosepiece of the hood, and FORD letter on the header panel. The side spears on the side of the hood has a stainless bar with the FORD lettering on it and a round stainless badge that has the F designation that goes over the spear.
The first picture is of my 52 (but it has a 51 clip with badges... soon to be swapped off for the proper 1952 ones). The second picture is of a 1952 F-2 (or 3) that was parted out by a fellow FTE member bobj49f2 (hope you don't mind me posting the pic Bob), I ended up with the doors and the nosepiece off this truck for my extended cab project. Hope this shows the differance
I am not sure that is a wrecker - it looks more like something built to deliver tanks - a lot of water well drillers had simular rigs, as did propane companies, even septic tanks used to be delivered with a rig like that.
Nice 56 F350. That last nice 56 F350 I found was priced at $5,500, alittle out of my comfort zone and was not quite as nice as your`s. Thanks for the nice gallery.
Around here, outfits such as the one on the "wrecker" were also used to transport and to load and unload burial vaults. I have a friend who actually still has one on an old Chevy that IS used as a wrecker.

I too think it is a truck for delivering burial vaults. BTW - I believe they stil deliver them with similar set-ups today.
