You will all hate me but....

I went light to light in my 05 C**Y 8.1L w/ the Allison (work truck) against a Powerstroke. He started getting racey the light before. In other words, he ticked me off and it led to a race.

He ate my dust.

I chalk it up to experinece over the driver in the other truck.

That should have been an easy chore with an 8.1, My wifes 5.3 Tahoe will do the same to my 05 PSD. They are sure not as quick as everyone makes them out to be, but I like my truck.

You would have thought he was driving a Funny car with the attitude he possessed.

The 8.1 gas should beat the powerstroke hands down. i think the best thing about a diesel is the longterm durability as well as increased fuel economy. your 8.1 probably doesn't dream of near 20 mpg

Yah your gasser would have more initial power against a diesel until the diesel had its revs up but by that time it would be too late. Dont underestimate those powerstrokes though every race is different. I wouldnt want to line up against one off the new 3v V-10s. I am afraid you would be eating his dust. Whoops I forgot was the truck a 6.0 or a 7.3. Them 6.0s are pretty fast. Just curious.

150 you got it backwards. Diesels make lots of low end hp but dont have the revs. High rpm torque is what wins races and a diesel will have less rpms. Even a supped up diesel will have a hard time against a gasser from a dead stop. A roll on race on the highway would be a different story until the diesel runs out of rpms. My last diesel would do 128 mph.

Why would I not want to? It's all in good fun, right? Hope I didn't step on your toes.

I am a Ford guy, just impressed as heck with the 8.1L and Allison in the Chevy. Sorry.

I'm not usually around this forum, nor am I a heavy pickup expert. But, what would happen if these trucks had 19,000 lb. trailers hooked onto 'em? then tried to stop quick? Just curious, since that's what heavy trucks are supposed to be able to do anyway.

The viper engine makes the Ram go fast too. Anyway, 8.1 is pretty bohemoth these days, what are the torque and hp curves? Anyone know?

it is not all that powerful 335hp i think and 450 somewhere for torque. the 6.0 powerstroke should beat it, i don't know by how much, but the powerstroke is 325 and a lot more torque. but heavier. the rearend size matters too.

at the stoplight torque matters.

in the end, i am not surprised.

you guy's must be retarded, my buddy's 99' F-350 powerstroke, crewcab, longbed, run's 15's, it has a 6spd, a 4inch lift 37" superswampers, 4.56:1 gears, arb airlockers, and every banks part made for the 7.3's, its supposed to be the best running powerstroke in colorado springs, and trust me it will eat all the duramax's, and your wifes tahoe, and some cummins, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and a midnight snack.

CA55F100: As a relative newcomer to the FTE site it stikes me as strange that there are so many chevy fans seemingly trying to start something... As long as it is all in fun then bring it on!

And next time try racing a truck with some mods, don't beat up some stocker!

Dad races a 'Cuda and I grew up on Dodges. The 98 F-150 I had made me convert. I rented an 04 Ford Extended cab that was much better than the work truck I have to drive. I'll take a Ford any day!!!!!!!

It is just nice to stir up conversation, isn't it? Keeps the blood flowing.

69, you definitely hit the nail on the head. It took me a lot longer than you to make this realization. You would think that the shivy guys would start their own website. You should be careful though because the shivy guys are nice compared to the guys pushing ricers on this board.
