work at a fleet shop in ne ga and was wondering if you can take an older 300 with carbureted system and points ignition and take all electronics off a newer EFI 300 and install on the older motor?> does everything swap out? thanks
Everything should bolt straight on as there were no casting changes between the blocks as far as i know from its entire run of 65-96. The only small thing i'm aware of that changed is something on the block itself for the clutch setup if you are going to run a stick.
Other than that, all the EFI goodies should just bolt right on.
There are minor differences in the blocks. Most will probably be mounting bosses for emmissions equipment etc, but the main ones will be the clutch setup (as desperado_18_2000 said), the fuel pump mounting (EFI engines had an electric pump & no hole for a mechanical pump) & the oil dipstick location. The real difference will be the head, the EFI head combustion chamber is a completely different design than the carb head. Your best bet to do this swap might be to put the 2 motors side-by-side & swap what is needed. Hope this helps.

oh ya makes sense...i was gonna say rebuild the head on the efi and put it on the oldy but then i'll prob have tight high end and loose pistons. we'll see how much piston/cylinder slop there is. thanks again
well i'm not saying it won't take place anytime soon but i just needed to know as a backup b/c when working in fleet...you have to know everything yesterday!
