Got my auto dimming/temperature/compass mirror installed. I had it mounted just behind the front bumper and that didn't work. Was getting 10 degree higher readings when at idle or stopped at a light. I remounted the sensor behind the grill but still don't know if it's the proper location for the temperature sensor. Anyone know? I'd appreicate any feedback. Thanks.
what does the manufacturer recommend? i have been wanting to get one of those.... where did you get yours from?
I don't know what the manufacturer recommends. Been trying to find out about that. I got my mirror for $79.95 and came with everything. Fairly easy to hook up. Exon Science is the manufacture and it can be found on ebay. Just do a search for (temperature mirror).
NOTE: The preferred location for the temperature probe is in the center
of the grille or some place where it will be in free air in front,
or to the side, of the radiator. Down near the bumper may also
be used. Avoid locating it inside or in front of the wheel well,
engine compartment, or too close to the headlamps. Try to
keep the height no higher than the center of radiator, and
no lower than 8" above the pavement. Always try to keep the
temperature probe in the center of the vehicle; never locate
it outside of the frame rails.
Is the sensor a Gentex or a Donnelly? The sensor provides an analog signal to the processor in the mirror assembly which "translates" the voltage to a temperature. If you intermix componets the processor may not be compensating properly.

E-Bay. Mine is a Gentex Model 177 out of a Mitsubishi Montero Sport, new in box for $60 plus shipping. If you want one (they are cool ) familiarize yourself with what's available and what OEM vehicles came with what. Stay with Gentex or Donnelly, avoid the Chinese/Tiawan knockoffs. They are cheaper but the quality isn't there (yet). Some purchasers of the knockoffs have had their dimming fluid leak out (changing electrical charge through a fluid is how the dimming mirror works) and spoil the interior of the vehicle
thanks for the advice dmp437.... i think i am going to start searching on ebay for one.... i was always under the impression that they were over 2-300 dollars. but now that i know what they should cost, i will probably own one within a few days.

I have the Exon Science auto dimming mirror and it works great! Compass and temp very acurate. This unit even comes with a UV sensor that is mounted up on a bolt holding the front license plate. I'm very pleased with the ES mirror and for the price I couldn't pass it up.
