What is this reverse sensing system people are talking about?

Is there a way to make a 2001 into a 2002 by just updating the ECM from Ford?

You can by buying a tuner :]

Once you tune them, the end result is the same. The differance in the OEM ratings is due mostly to the OEM tunes.

Thanks, Thats what I thought, I'm one of the few with the XtraLowoptionT package, I dont have the overhead computer either. I didnt want leather but wanted some other things and the XLT was the only used X that fit for me, so I dont have all the bells and whistles.

Reverse sensing is sensors in the rear bumper tell when you are close to backing into somthing and gives you a warning.
If you want more power with the ECM you will need a programmer or flip chip, but you need gauges with either one to be safe. You can always change the exhaust, intake and lots of other things. Check out the 7.3 diesel section for performance info. I have done some things to my 2001 that are in the link in my sig.

Thumbs up

<!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> I have always been brought up on the chevy part of town, mainly because of my dad & uncle who are die hard Chevy 60's muscle. Was in the market for a big powerful rig to tow heavy loads.

So being brought up Chevy, I went out and bought a brand new '03 Silverado with optioned 345 hp 450 lbs.-ft 8.0 ltr gasoline motor most powerful and not diesel, didnt think i could deal with the smell, and noise. Also optioned it with the Allison 5 speed Heavy Duty Transmission, 4 x 4, crew cab, long bed. Lots of power but at a very poor gas milage result. The price you pay for a big motor.

Went and bougt a 28' Toy Box (trailer w/rear ramp load) which the Chevy seemed to be able to tow relatively well. Driving cruise control set at 65 able to hold speed up hills 65 no problem but resuling @ 5 mpg. Was towing approx. 10,000 lbs. Without towing i was averaging 10 mpg. Now this is driving not being concerned about gas, normal city driving. The ride was never comfortable, and out here on Southern California Freeways, the ride quality was horrible. The rear would just bounce over the expansion joints on the freeway, to the point where you couldnt even carry on a conversation cause it bounced so much.

My wife was 7 months pregnant at the time and she was really hating the ride. I looked over at her and thought the baby was gonna pop out. Sooo... I needed a new ride, a family ride. Hum...... family ride, does that mean Mini Vans ? ... i dont think so.... Also I needed a rig that could tow 10,000 lbs but i needed comfort too. The search begins for a SUV... Checked out the market... Chevy had the suburban (Yukon), gasoline only! ! ! Cant live with 10 city 5 towing, should go diesel, better milage, more power too ! !

Chevy doesnt offer diesel in their big SUV, so I checked out an '05 4 x 4 Excursion with 6.0 ltr Power Stroke....... Bought it that day....[ bought a White Eddie Baur ...... 16.5 mpg city driving. Towing 10,000 lbs 9.8 mpg so far best out of 3 trips, but once again driving with cruise on and maintaining constant speed up and down hills with no problem. Plenty of room, addicting acceleration. There is one big gripe I have though.... Let the wife drive it, and i havnt driven it since.

Well, I have always gone with GM where I can. In this case, I need a diesel SUV and only Ford makes it so here I am. I am loyal but not stupid. I suppose it is because I am more familiar with GM. Actually, I have quite a few Ford techs that work on the side to help me out and a cheap parts source.

Further to that, I heard too many bad things about the 6.0L to feel comfortable that it won't blow a head gasket. Also, I am not using it as a daily driver so I don't really need it that new. I tow my Toy Box with it.

Although the 01's have 15 more hp it also got the dreaded mechanic diode in the tranny, a rebuilt tranny is the only fix. I've seen posts on various diesel web sites with lots of issues with the 01's to scare me away unless of course the tranny has already been swapped out which you may find with looking for one with higher miles. The 02's and up have powder coated rods versus the 00-01 forged rods. More than likely powder coated will do but with mods, high miles or heavy towing the forged rods are best. All years have the Dana 50 front were the pick ups in 02 were upgraded to a Dana 60 up front.

In either 02 or 03 the tow mirrors were made with lights and can be folded both ways to prevent damage.

My wifes 2000 limited 4x4 diesel X has every option except the rear bumper alarm, dvd player, and fog lights. The wheels are the steel wheels. At 153K miles the tranny is original, the glow plugs were replaced for no reason (did them myself at least!), gone through two CPS's, an alternator, and four door lock actuators.

In the past month 4x2 rear lift gate shocks were installed for more head clearance, newer style cup holders were added on both the dash and center counsel.

These mirrors weren't available for the Excursion until the 2004 model year; the Super Duties got them in 2003.

6.0 not all that bad

I have a 04 4x4 Limited PSD W/ 6.0 It has a 4" lift, 35" tires, BAnks Exhaust and a Hypertech programmer. This thing will blow those rice rockets off the road and get 20 mpg on the highway. I have over 20 PSD's in my landscape / grading business from a 99 w/ 400,000 miles to F-550's. We pull 10,000# everyday and have had no problems after the wiring harness changeout on a 03 F-250. We put 80,000 miles on it in 18 mths. Usually a water pump on 7.3 @ 100,000 miles and the occasional transmission replacement. Remember we tow everyday, and we load them to the max. The biggest problem is a supervisor letting a helper fuel it up and put gas in it. The Ford's will shut down before the engine gets damaged. Pump out the gas, change the filters and run some diesel additive in them and keep pulling. If I was worried about the 6.0 I would not put my wife and kid in it and send them off to the beach condo 200 miles away and not worry. Also if ever in a front head on crash you will fair better than any other car/truck on the road. Why did Ford cancel the best truck on the road?

My "X" is my 3rd SUV after I trashed 2 Suburbans ('00 Yukon XL w/5.3L, '01 Yukon XL Denali w/6.0L) trying to tow a travel trailer. The 2000 trashed the center main bearing. The 2001 trashed the tranny and then the front axle. My trailer grossed out at 7400 lb. GM overstates their tow rating and Ford, in my opinion, understates it. There is no replacement for a diesel Excursion anywhere on the horizon, at least from my perspective. Even if GM put the Duramax in the Sub (and they have now backed out of this), I'm not sure they are trustworthy.

Nope, we're all driving collector's items now. I believe the last one rolled off the line in September. Regardless of what year model or engine, the diesel Excursion will tow circles around any other SUV WITHOUT doing any mods to it.
