transfer case

i have a 1978 f250 4x4. right now its full time 4 wheel drive. i want it to be 4h 4l and 2wd. how do i go about achieving this. replys greatly appriciated

transfer case

You will need lock-outs and an NP 205 transfercase or suitable
substitute.

Several company's offer part-time conversion kits for the NP203, most run around $125. That and a set of manual hubs should have you set.

I believe that you have a NP203 transfer case. There is a kit that changes that. The kit will give you 4L, 4H, N, 2H, and 2L. I can't remember who sells it, but I'm sure if you call any local 4x4 shop, or 4wheel parts, they can tell you how to get one. And you will have to have lockout hubs, otherwise the whole swap is worthless. And if I recall right, the kit will come with hubs at a lesser price than buying them separate. Hope that helps.

Josh, I don't believe that truck came that way. I think I am correct that they came 2wd with the capability to have 4wd enguaged either high or low.

Has a PO screwed up something, is something broke, or did I not read something correctly?

Bite the bullet-get rid of that chain-driven P.O.S. and put in a REAL transfer-case -a 205 thats a hell of a lot tougher.Personally,on a comparison basis,I'd say the 205 is a Lincoln and the 203 is a Yugo.If ya havent guessed it yet,I dont care much for 203's.
