power steering box
steering box for my '68 bronco. It works, but
the steering tends to wander (oversteer or something
like that) at speeds over ~35-45. I don't think
it is fatal, but it is less than optimal and certainly
less than I expected from a brand new remanufactured
box. So I wonder what people's experiences are
with these, and am willing to consider advice on
what to do now. A wheel and brake guy did the alignment
and complained to me about the box, and showed
me the play in it (engine off, helper wiggles
the steering wheel 1/4 turn each way, watch to see
what looks loose under the front end --
it was a relatively small amount to my untrained eyes,
but somewhat noticeable once one sees it and knows
what to look for-- I am not going to question
any steering expert on stuff like this).
Is this a common problem with re manufactured units?
Is LMC reliable in this area, if I get the runaround
from the Bronco parts supplier that sold me the box?
Searching the archives, I see a lot of people recommend
hitting the junkyards for a used box (sounds like
bringing a buddy would help to check for play)...
Thanks!
Steve
