Going to be building up a 302 tril power for a family project on a '63 f100. Looking to find out what would be the best cam, compresson, and head cc to use. Can anyone help me out?
Well, you probably want to keep your compression around 9 or 9.5 to 1 if using iron heads, which would equate to roughly 60cc heads (there are many variables that affect compression ratio and it's hard to say without more to go on)
Since this motor is going in a fairly heavy vehicle, you probably want a cam that will keep your torque down low, so you need a truck grind, something in the idle to 4500 RPM range. Cam selection also depends on many variables and again, more info is needed here. If you want a hot rod truck that you expect to be driving with your foot to the floor much of the time and won't haul a load, you might want a cam with a higher power curve. Gear ratio is an important factor here as well.
So, things that we need to know:
Intended usage of the vehicle
Gear ratio
Transmission
Engine mods (Stroker, aluminum or iron heads planned, headers, etc.)
It's gonna be in a driver but want to have that tire buring fun. It's gonna be a 9" with locker and 3.89 gears. Transmission is gonna be a tci street fighter c-6 with macthing converter with 1500 stall over stock. Aslo a 347 stroker with iron heads and block hugger headers.
