opinions on upgrading used engine

hi i just finished replacing the engine in my '82 F-150 from a 300 I6 to a 351w. The engine ran good before it was pulled out of the '83 F-150 it came in so being on somewhat of a budget and short time period i only cleaned it and put in all new gaskets. well got it in and it still runs good. i hooked up a manual oil pressure guage and it has 50 psi cold and warms up to about 25 psi. I have had it in and have been running it for about 3 weeks, 60+ miles per day. I would like to install a 4 brl intake (either an edelbrock performer or just a stock 4brl) a comp cam xtreme energy (part# 35-238-3) and hooker headers (part #H00.6912). Do you think this will be okay on the engine as is. I would be replacing the lifters but will the valve springs have to be replaced (about 75,000 miles on engine). thanks for any opinions.

Yes you really should get the matching springs along with the camshaft.Even if the ford springs were brand new they probably wouldn't be strong enough to prevent valve float with the higher lift of the new cam.It might be ok if you kept it at low rpms but that would kind of defeat the purpose of swapping in that camshaft. You can swap the springs with the heads on the engine by using a compressor to pressurize the cylinder through the spark plug hole.I've also heard of people just shoving rope into the cylinder ,anything to hold the valves up.

ya replace the springs. wrong spring can cause cam failure as well. otherwise sounds good. i would go edelbrock intake though. stock ford 4brl intakes are heavy
