Truck starts o.k. when cold, but if hot and sits for more than 15 mins, it takes forever cranking it to get it started. I am at a loss here. New to diesels.
TIA
Todd
P.S. Have installed new GP's, and had starting system and batt's checked out and were told there were good.
This is first sign of the IP being worn out, how many miles on it. You could try some fuel additive and see if it improves. If not the last step is to pour cool water over the rear of the IP when it won't start, if it starts right up......... you need a new IP.
Both my mechanis and now the friend I bought it from (that heard me satrting it tonight when it was hot said it is in need of a new starter. It is not turning iver fast enough. I am going to look into a gear reduction starter. I have heard they use less power and spin faster?

I think I have had almost every problem you can have with an IDI 7.3. Sounds to me like either you have air entering into the system or you have a bad IP, I have had both. I really dont see how a starter will fix this problem, but you never know.
Either one of those problems last stated would cause the truck to idel rough and run wierd. It runs and idles great. The injector pump was changed not far back from what I was told and the air leak, like I said would cause rough idle etc. So I have been told anyway. It does turn over rather slow, the guy I bought it from said he went through a starter every six months when he had it. He said, every time it started getting slow rpm's, I had it rebuilt. That's why I want the gear reduction starter, so I have less problems. Lety me know what you think.
