Yes the wire is the same for the brakes and the turn signals, as is the filament in the lightbulb....however the brakes and the hazards should be on the same fuse. Since the hazards don't work either, maybe you are checking the wrong fuse.
If this doesn't fix it. Check for 12 volts out of the brake light switch, when the brake pedal is pushed. If you have voltage into the switch but not out it is the switch that is broken.
If there is no voltage into the switch, just trace back till you find voltage, the wire should be red and goes to the hazard flasher socket next. From there it should be red with a white stripe and goes to the fuse box.
If you have voltage out of the switch it could be the turn signal switch itself, as the brake light circuit goes thru it. Or it could be a bad wire or connection into the switch, it should be a red wire with a black stripe.
The problem isn't past the turn signal switch as the same wires are used past it for the turn signals, and they work.
My best guess is the fuse is gone though
Which leads to the next question why did it blow?????? Check for chaffed wires from the fuse to the turn signal switch.Hope this helps, and isn't too confusing

i amd next going in to the steering colum to check for more wires all the fuses in the box are fine used a test light on both side of all i have power to and from the brake pedal switch
from only when the brakes are pressed then it runes up to the hazard relay i replaced this but!....I put a test light on where the relay plugs in and i have power on both sides???
not as much on one side and when i pull the switch out to turn it on the front signals work fin but no rear still working on it thanks for all the help I'll let ya know!!
