There were some recent (like within the past 3 mths) discussions in the 48-60 forum. Not sure what year truck you're thinking of doing this to, but the discussion covered most points that need to be kept in mind... If you can't find it with a search in there, then start a new thread there and ask all your questions. Us 48-60 guys just love to talk...

Check the user galleries. There are some "typical" flip front ends pictured. There have also been a number of threads here on the subject. The typical flip cuts thru the fender in front of the cowl down to the wheel opening.

Are you looking to purchase a setup like this or build it yourself? I have pix of mine in my gallery 'TruckMods' that I did myself. It's a lot of work and there's a whole lot to consider when doing it, but it's worth it IMO.

It looks great I've been thinking of building one myself, but have a lot of unanswered questions. All I really need is visuals. Would it be possible to post more specific pictures? for ex: tilt, rad support, how you got the bumper to clear framerails, what the whole assembly sits on at the firewall, what you used to hold down at the firewall, how you had everything hold together as one clip, rams? etc.
Any pictrues would solve much of this, and I would really appreciate it.

Thanx

I have lots of pix I took of the project but too many to post. If you send me an e-mail with your address, I can send them directly to you.

The basic concept for mine is that everything is mounted to the rad. support. The fender itself carries the weight of the hood and inner fenders. The hinge is just an angle and a plate bolted to the support that pivots on a pin on the frame. The bumper is bolted to the plate and tilts with the clip.

The radiator is bolted to the frame rails with angles, and I ran square tubes from the top back to the firewall for a little more support. They also give me a place to run wires and mount the windshield washer bottle.

The tricky part is that everything that was mounted to the inner fenders has to be relocated to the firewall.

When the hood closes, the inner fenders rest on their original brackets that are bolted to the firewall. I cut a slot in the bracket and put a bolt through the inner fender to sild einto the slot. I used latches from a corolla hatchback and fitted them inside the brackets to catch the bolt.

These are just the basics and the pix should clear up most of it.

Hope this helps.

Just send an email, it works better.

One thing you might want to consider is rubber mounting many of the components. It takes more fab time but is well worth the effort. Standard shackle and spring bushings as well as shock bushings can be used to keep parts easy to find. It will make the vehicle less rattle prone and much more pleasant to drive.

Torque's right. Especially for the radiator. My initial setup was hard mounted to the frame. I've since put rubber bushings between the angle and frame and rubber washers on the bolt.

Buckfever, you'll have to send me an e-mail and not a private message. E-mail addresses get deleted from private messages for security purposes. Drop me a line and I'll be happy to send you all the pix I have. Just remember mine is nowhere near a show truck. My mods are functional but not pretty.
