Well, up here in Canada the dealership(Can you believe it!) I bought my truck off of sent me a coupon in the mail for an oil and filter change for $10. I can't even do it myself for double that price. The latest I can go is the end of March which is a little early for regular change intervals but what the heck, could'nt hurt anything I think. Decided to get the tranny flushed as well and was quoted $129, does that seem like a reasonable price for that? The last time it had it done was at 60000kms and now its at 105000kms, little early maybe, or late?
yep i have seen that here too. but we also have a 4.00 enviro fee on top of it. still a good deal. 129.00 is going rate to have the tranny done the correct way stay away from the quick lube flushes.
gashog - what don't you like about the quick lube flushes? I've had them done at both. The last one was at Ford as they told me they would run a cleaner thru it first and then the flush and fill. The Quick Lube just did the fluid exchange while I watched, and was about $40 - $50 cheaper???
the quicklubes use the same machine for all the fluids. you end with with all sorts of small amounts of fluid in there. Type F, ATF+3 , dexron III , mercon, mercon V modifier. and the grade of fluid they use is not the best either. the ford dealer uses a 3 stage setup. one is for mercon , one is for mercon SP and the other is mercon V. it keeps them from being mixed up.

whats wrong with it??? the ford dealer here runs it from time to time also. its a way to generate business. they hope you come in and they find something else wrong which they can make money off of. if the oil is motorcraft oil and the filter is the bulk champions whats so bad with it? don't you normally buy on price? the oil meets the specs so its "good enough" .

That's exactly what keeps me out of all of these places. I do all of my routine maintenance. Anything more complicated goes ONLY to ONE person I trust. Finding a good mechanic that you can trust is harder than finding a good heart surgeon. At least the heart surgeon knows your family can sue his rear. The mechanic can just shrug his shoulders and try something else.

i-ro-ny n -A literary style employing ironic contrasts for humorous or rhetorical effect.
Irony doesn't come across so well in text. Neither does sarcasm.
If you have ever read any of my posts, you will know that I am the Brand Name Anti-Christ. I live to search out bargains. I am also Mr. Generic and due to my employment situation, understand enough about marketing to have a firm grasp on how brand name companies manipulate you into paying premium prices for common commodities. This fact is never more true than in the motor oil business.
Unfortunately, many on this board equate quality with price (also known as Marketing 101 and one of the beliefs that marketing types try very hard to encourage). So when I post that Purolator PSD oil filters are on Sale at Pep Boys for $0.99 after rebate, I get bombarded with posts that a $0.99 oil filter can't possibly be any good and only $13 K&N filters will do. Never mind that when not on sale, the Purolators filters are $11.99 at Pep Boys. A $0.99 oil filter just cannot possibly be of good quality. Etc., etc., etc.
So yes, when the shoe is on the other foot, I resort to sarcasm to prove my point.

Isn't that the truth? If a person can't take the heat, get away from the fire.

Not quite sure how to take that. If that was directed towards me I fail to see how my butt was in the fire to begin with, or are you being "sarcastic".
Sorry seventyseven250, my post was not intended to offend you at all, I was actually trying to go with what you had said earlier about irony and sarcasm and not make a statement to insult your post. Once again I apologize, I guess you are right that it is hard to convey what a person is trying to get across when it is typed instead of actually saying it to there face.
