My real question is ? How do you work the eaton 2 speed rearend. I just fixed the elect motor but am not sure how to shift it...Great site !! Thanks for any help.
Kip
Kip, you upshift the rear axle by depressing clutch, pulling up on the red ****, release clutch. shifts just like the 4-spd trans. My books cover 1960, but I believe your F-600 was built in "K" Kansas City, shipped/sold in Atlanta Ga, DSO "21".

If I remember correctly with a 5 speed, the shift would be 1l-1h, 2l-2h, 3l-3h, 4l-5l, 4h-5h.
Pull or push the button, then off the gas, and dump the clutch for the shift. Going form H to L next gear, pust the button, lift off the gas, clutch, change up the gear, and it should be in L when you get back in the gas.
Hope this helps a little.

In the cool still quiet of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
I would just leave it in high range unless your taking off with some serious weight and you dont want to lug the motor to much, otherwise its just unessicery messing around the difference between high and low range isnt that much
Kip-Good advice above-jowilker is right about 5 speed over/under progression. I'm not sure how you are going to use this truck, but if you are ever going to haul any real loads, remember this.If you are going up a hill loaded and powering down, the last thing you want to do is let up on the gas!A few seconds before you are ready to shift down, keep the gas pedal floored and push down the red button[to downshift,of course].Wait a second and then stab the clutch pedal as fast as you can.By stabbing,I mean depressing the pedal about half way to the floor and letting up as fast as you can.
I was raised on a ranch/farm where missing a gear was not acceptable.
Upshifting is just as whomrig said.
I forgot ...in my previous post Kip-that was only for shifting down with the two-speed.When splitting gears you definetly have to let up on the gas pedal!
