i am changing from standard to auto in my truck everything is fine until i went to install the torq. convertor there is a splined bushing? in the hole where the torq . needs to go . any ideas on getting this out ? thanks
Thats the pilot bearing.
There easy to remove. Best way is to get a pilot bearing puller or a slide hammer. I know If theres a Kragen/Schucks/Checkar around you they loan them out. You just have to give them a credit card number so if you don't return the tool they charge you for it.
I know if its a bushing its just bronze which is kind of soft, but if its a bearing thats going to have a hardend steel race in it. Either way I don't see how you could cut it in half since the bore on the crankshaft will keep the bushing from expanding as you try to hammer a chisel in it.
Use a small chisel and cut down the side. I have done this many times.
If the bushing moves it will bottom out and just keep pounding.
Or you can try a die grinder and cut it out.
