I have a 1972 F100 with a 360 and C6. When I accelerate from an idle the engine shutters slightly. It has just recently started doing this and ran fine before. It still idles and runs great down the road. Someone suggested a warped fly wheel, but could it have warped by itself? Is there a way to check if the flywheel is warped?
I think I would start with the simpler things like a good tune up, maybe plug wires, check the condition of the plugs to see if anything is fishy in one cylinder.

I have put in new plugs and points, but not new wires. I will most likely do that next. I have just recently changed the transmission filter and checked the fluid level a day later to bring it up to full.
It seems to idle very well, wouldn't it be running rough at an idle if it was the plug wires?
might also want to check the accelerator pump on your carb.
with engine off, open the choke flap and look strait down into the carb, then suddenly open the troddle up. you should notice A GOOD HEALTHY shot of gas enter the carb. if little or no gas is shot out then it is probably Time or a carb overhaul.
This could be so many things.
1. Check your motor and transmission mounts. As your vehicle speeds up the inertial forces decrease, acceleration decreases, allowing the drivetrain to settle down and realign itself. That's a long shot in the dark. Good Luck.
2.Driveshaft u-joints could cause this but usually give off a good amount of noise to warn you.
3. The two piece driveshafts must be in phase or they can cause a serious shimmy. Just line the Yokes up together. I think C6 applications had one piece driveshafts?
4. How old is this beauty? Does it have a CAT? Clogged CAT can cause problems of all sorts. If it is clogged your exhaust will hiss under hard accel. Probally wouldn't cause a shutter.
It's a 1972. One question what is a CAT? It does it in park also, but is not as noticable. I have had it about two years and it started doing it out of the blue one day. It doesn't matter if it is hot or cold.
If it does it in park, you can elimanate the entire drivetrain, except for the motor. Are you getting a backfire? If so, it's ignition. If not, its fuel. Check your oil, see if you smell fuel, if so, you've got a bad fuel pump. Replace your fuel filter ASAP. It attaches to the carb. Go from there.
Secondly, the CAT is the Catalytic Converter, a part of the exhaust sytem used to reduce fuel emmissions. Not installed until 1974 and only on specific models.
Good Luck, Have Fun

Re plug wires: They generally break down under load. Try this, in a dark garage have a friend put in gear and give it a little gas while holding the brake. If it's good and dark you may see some flashes of light/corona discharge if they are weak.
