Problems rebuilding a 1949 starter
Hi:
Just started rebuilding the first of two starters for a 49 Merc 1/2 ton. The field magnets are held in by Robertson heads that are enormous. The square holes measure about 9/32". Can you get a bit this large? Anyone have any suggestions how to get them out?

Use a half inch socket set and grind down the end of an extension.
Buy a pipe plug socket
