I want to know if there is a kit to do an engine swap. I love my 4.2 v-6 but in about a year I want to put a built up 5.0 in my 2000 f-150. I have the lightning body style so I want to built my own lightning! Just wndering how hard it would be! Thank You!!!!
I couldn't help you if I tried, but I think it's a good idea. I got the v6 too, and if it is possible i would love to drop a 302 in my lil truck.
Good luck!
Not that I've done it on a Ford truck but I have a little experience with swapping different motors in an Audi. Swapping motors was pretty easy. The real PITA was getting the electrical (sensors and computer) system to all co-operate together. The problem was going from a non-turbo V6 to a turbo 4. The sensors and of course engine management system were completely different. If I were going ahead on this Ford project I would start by researching the differences in the management systems.
If you're going to go old school why not try to shove a 5.8 or even the 460 in there? I'm not sure about size restrictions but i think the 460 is actually smaller in physical size than the 5.4 engine. And a 2000 f150 with a 460 in it would be one bad *** truck!
I am also very interested in this swap. I have the 4.6 with a manual trans in it and already have the 5.0 out of my mustang ready to go in. I am going to use a c6 with a np-208 tansfer case. To help with the computer problems, I am going to go carburated. My only problem so far is motor mounts. Hard to fine since there is not a kit out there for it yet. Guess I will have to build my own. Do you think the 4.6 radiator will be big enough for the 5.0? Good luck to everyone that wants to do this conversion and keep us posted. I will do the same.
