here it goes, 2001 psd blue cps stmt @90 filled fuel tank getting 13.4mpg (bs) was only 14.8 gals. from full ,went 4 mile started missing, coast to stop d.r.t. let sit 5 min. restarted made it about 100 yards drain fuel filter very little water no start. let sit about 3hrs. change fuel filter housing was nearly empty after cranking 30 sec slow to re-fill filter housing, ran ok after 3 min. made it home thanks to my 96 30twice (to the rescue) any ideas no codes tach acted normal i'm thinking lift pump any ideas would be great.
The 01 doesn't have a lift pump. It has an electric in-line pump on the drivers frame rail under your seat. If it's working you should be able to hear it humming for 20 seconds or so after you turn the key on, before you start it.
Do you have your old cam sensor? I might try replacing the blue one with the stock one first.
old cmp doa, got one on e-bay last night should be here next week. the scanner data showed good rpm signal, good ipr, no faults that is why i suspected fuel pump. I did hear the pump run after filter was changed, but it did seem to take alot of cranking to get the filter housing full, as soon as it was it started.how and where can I test fuel pressure? is there a test port somewhere?
I am planning to check the truck out further tommorrow. thanks for your help, you folks are great!
Maybe fuel pump stuffed full of crap.
simple fix open drain,
open filter cap then blow thru tank side of pump TOWARD the filter
with compressed air. then blow into the tank thru the same hose you removed
from the rear of pump. If you add a pre-pump filter you will see the trash/water.
A Cheap version is the $3-5 universial fuel filters from parts stores and 18"
of 5/16 fuel line to replace the factor line between metal line and the pump.
