I have a 94 bronco 5.0 w/ e4od and tow package. The problem has developed even worse since the new exhaust has been installed but the engine runs much better. The truck loses all power when driving up hill and shutters/jolts. I have changed fluid in it every year and no major metal in the pan and the filter looks clean. I have suspected the mlps but do not know how to test for it. The truck has only 80,000 miles and has been well cared for. What about tv cable adjustment??? The other thing I have noticed is that it tends to have a stiff gas peddle like it is giving resistence when pushing in on throttle and it also idles up sometimes when braking and is hard to stop. My gas milage has dropped to about 8-MPG too. What the heck should I look at guys? Your help is greatly appreciated.
I'm the farthest thing from an authority, but I would start looking through all of the sensors. I have an 88 with a C6, and mine did the same exact thing with the hills. I took it to a transmission shop, and they told me it was nothing in there, and to get the engine checked out. Real nice about it and didn't charge for anything. The only reason I say that is because I can think a lot clearer when the possible bill is running in the tens, maybe hundreds range rather than the thousands with a new tranny. I ended up just going through all of the sensors because I didn't know when any of them were replaced, but I know my 88 and your 94 are two different animals.
Stick around...someone else will surely chime in, and there are guys here who have forgotten more about Broncos than I'll ever know.
Thanks...i Have Replaced More Than 75% Of All Engine Emissions Control Sensors...i.e. Iac, Tps, Egr And So On. I Am Getting Steadily More Frustrated With This Vehicle And Am Looking To Buy A New Dodge. I'll See What The Future Brings Be It Fixed Bronco Or New Dodge Truck With A Hemi :-d
What I would do at this point is to check for codes. Even if you have no CEL, chances are you have codes stored.....in any case let the truck diagnose itself.
If your not sure exactly how to pull the codes, or what tools you will need. This link will tell you how to pull the codes with nothing more than a paper clip. http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=13 There is also a list of the fault codes and their meanings at ryans site.

I have pulled codes and only have code 33 (egr valve) stored as hard code in the computer. It has yet to fix or diagnose itself for the past 9-months but does not have the check engine light on either. Do you see my frustration?!! It has a new egr valve and sensor...It's irritating. Your help is appreciated.
vacum leaks may cause driveability issues. pull your rear diff cover and inspect the tone ring. this item talks to the tranny. whats your timing set at? when was it tuned up last with new plugs, wires, cap rotor. might need to change your o2 sensors or may have a clogged cat converter.

I have not accomplished a KOER test yet. I did however buy the MLP sensor this evening, an O2 Sensor, the rear speed sensor only to discover that the mlp sensor did not have the new plug in the damn box from ford. Now they are closed and I have to go back there tomorrow to possibly find out that they do not have any more in stock
Kem- what is this tone ring??? and what exactly would it do to cause my issues?
I did just install a whole new exhaust system on the truck last weekend in my stone driveway, in the cold. I noticed a much better response from the engine thinking it was the cat that was clogged causing this mysterious buzz at the firewall when the truck is under load/lacking power. Well, it was not the problem and the buzz is still there near where those darn fresh air check valves are. Could those check valves be causing driveability issues such as this? Or maybe the buzz is a vacuum leak on the upper intake??? I am at the end of the road with this truck...I am beginning to rethink the ford pride but everything has it's problems...this one is just down right rediculous. The ford techs are even stumped with this gremlin since the OD light does not flash, no codes are present and the check engine is not on. Arggghhhhhh!!!
the tone ring is like a gear mounted in the rear axle. its what the vss reads . if there are teeth missing it wont work properly
If teeth are in fact missing, would this cause the Shudder or jolting as the engine is under load??? This happens while going up hill and when the tranny downshifts to 2nd gear under load. I am going to install the new MLP sensor this morning if all goes well at the dealership. Thanks again!
Darn, I was hoping you wouldn't say torque converter. I was thinking it though. I have checked the fluid while running and also when changing fluid it appears to be very clean and not burnt. Who the heck knows. The shifting issues have been fixed with the new mlp sensor but the shudder and lack of power up hills and all still remains...along with the dang buzzing near the firewall...I guess this may be the torque converter making the noise and resonating up though the bell housing.
