Am I asking to much?.
They sell bigger tanks I believe LMC sells a 30 or 32 gallon............Dont know about mounting an additional tank underneath...I believe mine is 36-40"long by 18"and probably 10" high...Just guessin.....Dont know what your truck looks like but you could go with a fuel cell in the box or a couple of cans for back up.......Do you need 60 gallons of gas often.....With my trucks to go through that much Id need.. 2 cases of fluids and 5 gallons of Antifreeze before I even got to use the fuel...
My '77 shortbed 4x4 has one tank under the frame at the back, above the spare tire. I have another tank, factory option, in the cab behind the seat. I would like to remove the tank behind the seat for 2 reasons, safety and storage space. Starting in 1980 Ford started installing a midship tank under their shortbeds which held/holds 17 gals. I believe that a 80-81 tank would probably fit just fine, one would have make the mounting straps. The wiring harness that runs along the frame in my truck has a pig-tail for a mid ship tank so the swap should be pretty easy. The inside wall of the bed has a hump moulded into to clear the filler/vent lines. It would be a matter of finding another filler door assy. from a salvage yard and installing, or in my case, having it installed. The extended cab trucks of the time had the option of dual tanks and if it was a shortbed it had both doors.
