Just got the notice in the mail. The OBD systems on certain '05 and '06's "may not properly monitor the performance of the emission control systems on your vehicle. As a result, the check engine light may not illuminate when required." They want to reflash the engine and transmission control modules "with the latest level software to enhance the function of the OBD system." They're calling this a Voluntary Emission Recall to conduct a "performance enhancement".
Any thoughts? My '06 has 8600 miles on it now--nary a problem--and I'm kinda hesitant to have it reflashed. Guess I don't have much choice?
So I'm going in today to have my bigger tires put on. I'm going to have them reprogram for the larger tires size. They are charging me to hook it up to the computer to make that change.
If they need to re-flash it (aka hook it up to the computer anyway) should I bitch about having to pay to have them change the tire size/speedo calibration at the same time?
Took my 05 KR CC 250 4X4 in for the 05E16 recall. Also had them look at some items of interest. They were:
1. Hesitation on acceleration from a stop and also hesitation when doing 40-45 mph and then givinig it full throttle - Replaced Turbo, EBP Sensor and Valve A.
2. Steering oscilations at 65-70 mph due to uneven road - Re-Aligned front end IAW TSB05-22-1.
3. Parking brake pedal would go all the way to the floor 40% of the time. The other 60% it would go part way down. - Replaced Parking Brake Assembly.
Will follow up with additional info on the recall after I get some miles on it.
I received the 05E15 recall today in the mail. My 05 with 19980 miles has had only one problem, when temperature is below 30 mine smoke on second and third start-up. If it sets outside all day then it really smokes and no power until I hammer it, then is run fine again. If the temperature remains above 40 then I have no problems what-so-ever. I think I'll tell the service manager this before they start to do any repairs. Is there anything that they do with this recall that will make the truck worst running? I'll talk the to man on Monday.
Got my notice in the mail today. Will this have any affect on my Superchip? From what I have read before, anybody who has had a reflash has had more problems in the long run. I only have 8000 miles on my 05 and have not had any problems as of yet. I want to keep it that way.
I have 35" tires and do not think it has been reprogrammed for the tire size. Is this something simple for them to do?
I took mine in monday for the recall (emissions) also a drip at the bell housing, and poor mileage (12-13). 2006 sd 250 lariat super cab with 8016 miles. They replaced the pan gasket and front and back seals. Said I had a shorted vgt module? and had the
re flash for emmisions. Seems to run fine only have 150 miles since the work. No hard starting or anything it was 12 deg this morning. I'll update you if anything changes.
Jeff
Ps what is the vgt module do?

To my knowledge, they cannot change the tire size on our Ford's by computer. You must use an inline computer or a tuner.
Did you get yours done without any problems? Let me know b/c mine is off about 4% due to larger tires.
VGT is variable geometry turbo. There is a slotted ring that varies the amount of flow through the turbo to minimize lag by keeping the pressure up. They are supposed to move and get sticky if they carbon up.
