I have Magna Flow exhaust on my 2006 F-350 harley davidson(just bought, sweet package) and im not getting the sound i want out of it.
Its the 4 inch high quality material, however it still has the catalic converters on. Any ideas why its quiet, i was guessing maybe the converters are filtering out the sound??
This would be a good guess. My converter does not restrict any flow, and the sound is very nice. When idling, you can hear the whine of the turbo. when WOT it screams, but average driving it sounds much better than the stock 6.0,......did I mention that my converter was sitting in the garage?
I just purchased an 06' F-350 6.0,,,Was wondering how it would sound by just replacing that huge muffler, with a straight pipe and leaving the cat on so all is legal with the emissions ?? Anybody done this ??

i took mine out and left the CAT in as to be "legal" and warranty stuff... and it sounds awesome.. i need to get some sound clips up so you guys can hear it.. it whistles from idle to 2k then 2K to redline it rumbles and whistles..b ut i love it.. and its a cheap mod and turbo spools faster..
I hate the EPA, LOL. There was a guy on here a few weeks ago talking about how we are equal to murderers if we don;t run our CAT's. He also said we just don't get it. The best reply under the post was, "I get it, I realy just don't give a damn" quoted from PSD60LFX4's post, LOL!
The Magnaflow systems do not have a built in cat connection so I am guessing that whoever did the install welded them in place. Depending on which Magnaflow system you got that could mean that you are going from a 4 inch down pipe to a 3.5 inch cat and then back to 4.0 inches tubing wise. That will create some flow disturbances and cancel out a lot of the sound that you would normally hear. On the MBRP we have a 3.5 inch to a 3.5 inch to the 4.0 and it reallyhelps the sound and flow rates. You might want to get the pipes sized the same to get what you're after.
My Bullydog is a true 4" from the Turbo to the end. Where it goes to the cat, I cut the cat a bit deeper than the flange and welded it all. Same aft. Installing without muffler, (recently sold the Bullydog muffler on Ebay). One thing that helped my sound was to cut 18" off of the tail pipe, (after it passes the spare tire), and weld on a 5 1/2" stainless tip that's 18" long. You can hear the turbo sing at idle when she's warming up. And the sound under load is unique. Throaty, but mellow unless you've got your foot into it. Turbo whine is prominent from 1500-2100. Higher RPMS than that, you can't hear the whine as the rumble takes over.
looks nice.. i'm just gonna put a 45* or 90* turn down right in front f the right rear tire... so it will just be the down pipe, CAT, and the pipe after the CAT to the turn down.. just b4 the tire.. i love the way it sounds.. mine also really sings when its just idling.. sounds sooo good..
Thanks guys. I went to a local Diesel guy in Orland FL area and he said he wouldnt install them with out stock cats on. So he cut it and welded the cats back on.
Do you guys running the exhaust without the cats notice any major difference in Smog or smell?
I started chopping exhausts first on my 97' PSD and have always done them on my own. I always cut from amount 4" before the muff. to about 4" behind the "MEOW" install a 3.5" pipe, and put a 4" ECHO TIP on the tailpipe. (this is my secret.) The tip has made the sound on my trucks. It creates an awesome rumble and below and when idleing the turbo sounds like an airplane whistling. For the past 10 years I have had the loudest, best sounding psd in town and everyone always wanted to know how and what I did. Todays aftermarket systems are much better as demand is higher and may produce the same sound as mine, but I have yet to hear one equal to mine, nor have I seen anyone with an ECHO TIP. I may just live in an area where there are not very many intelligent/young PSD owners. j/k Anyway thats my recipe, oh and with an AFE intake that creates the whistle you hear in the cab, (stage I, $ vs gain was too close for Stage II)
Another option for the "MEOW" is to remove it and re-install it taking care not to DROP it and spill all its guts out!!
