Ive noticed this happening every once and a while. When accelerating from a stop light, and the torqueshift shifts from 3-4 it feels as if it slips and the exhaust belts out a cloud of smoke. It only does this once and a while. I have 25k miles on it, and just changed my fuel filters today, and so far it seems better, and i hasnt done the above yet. Anyone ever had this happen?
this is the first time I have heard the above description. Several have complained about the 3-4 shift, but they have never attached a smoke to it. how hard/fast are you accelerating?
It did this under moderate acceleration from a stop. It did this with the EGR connected and disconnected. However, I drove the truck a few times after changing my fuel filters yesterday, and it hasnt done it and seems to shift better. Weird. We'll see how she runs today
My 04 Excursion does the same thing! Seems to hesitate between shifts and smoke belches out of the tailpipe. I have also had a bucking problem on occasion, especialy when pulling a trailer. At highway speeds with the trailer, I have to be aggressive with the throttle in order to not have the truck start bucking and popping. I have been thinking that my transmission might be going out but who knows? I guess this will be my first trip to the dealer.
I hope you find the problem, I know on mine when i eased into the throttle it would slip and hesitate and belch a ton of black smoke. It would also do it from a stop but if I got on it, it would hesitate and shift hard. For me though replacing the EGR valve solved the problem.
my EGR valve has been replaced oh....3 times, usually the symptoms where throttle response related or stalling issues. I wonder if as the trans. shifts and engine RPM's drop the fuel supply is not adjusting as quickly, due to the EGR, thus dumping too much fuel into the engine and making it run too rich?? just a thought....
Well, day two of driving. Drove it all day in the city in stop and go traffic. It did not do it one time. The only thing I changed was the fuel filters, so maybe that was it. Im still on the same tank of fuel so that rules out crappy fuel. Ill keep everyone up to date on the issue. Thanks
