I have a 1989 F-250 that wont start. I just had it smoged and it passed, I drove it home and went to drive it about a week later and it won't start. I removed a plug and it has spark. does anyone have any ideas as to what the prob. might be? Thankyou
If it won't start, then it's missing either air, fuel, or spark. Since you've got spark, it must be either air or fuel. When you turn the key do you hear the fuel pump priming (it will run for about 1 second). I would start there, let us know if the pump is turning on and we'll help from there!
Thanks for the replies. Yes I can hear the pump run for a second or so when I turn the Ign. on. I dont have a way to read the codes at the moment. I thought that it might be something obvious thats a particular quark to this model. Also I've checked the fuel inertia switch and as near as I can tell it is set. I would like to check to see if their was fuel at the manifold, but Iwould need one of those tools to disconect the line from the mani. I was wondering weather it would be worth it to change the ECC module. I hate just replacing parts on an experimantaion basis, but I know no trustworthy mechanics. I've had some bad experincies with dealers and auto shops. Thanks for any help
If the pumps ran for the a second then your Fuse Links, Fuel Pump Relay, and the Inertia Switch are all OK.
I know you said it has spark but I would take your TFI Module off and take it to Autozone and have it tested. You might have to go there first and buy a tool to take it off the Distributor.
Do not disconnect the fuel line to check for fuel pressure, there is a small valve on the fuel manifold for this purpose, It looks like a tire valve.
I have used a Dial Tire Gauge to check fuel pressure but some have said they were unable to do it this way. You may have to ground pin 6 of the test connector to run the pumps while doing the test.
