center console

I have a 99 ranger w/ 60/40 bench and the console is broke in several ways. I was wondering, since this seems to be a common problem, what anyone else has done to fix this w/o having to buy the whole thing for 200+?

How is your console broken? Mine (a '97) just won't stay latched. So, I have an old, worn-out necktie tied around it. It slides off so I can open the lid, and holds it shut reasonably well the rest of the time. It's far from a perfect solution, but for the price, I'm happy. It's been like that for several years.

There's no fix. A lot of people wish there was. Junkyard time.

I had a broken latch... I took it all apart, and epoxied it back together. Works...

I still would like to see about why the arm-rest swivels back further then the rest of the seat back. I really need three seats in my truck... For now, a scrap of 2x6 keeps it from swiveling too far back...

I did the same thing as agryphon. I could hear the latch rattling around inside the bottom tray, so I took it out and used some good glue to put it back together. Gave the top a good cleaning while I was at it. Worked like a charm.

Velco

I used Velco to hold mine shut. Put in the hvy duty industrial stuff on the inside top and bottom. Won't work with the sticky kind so I used a couple of short body screws through the velco to hold it and it now works fine...

Mine latches but hovers about 1/3 inch off the bottom (stupid thing). Junkyard is a good way to fix it, pick up a new one for cheap.

I'm actually not familiar with the latch issue. I had the broken armrest hinge problem.

When this happened to me I went to the junkyard and got a pair of buckets and a center console from a wrecked BII, the seats bolted right in, (had to wire the lumbar inflator) and the center console took a little work to install but it was worth the $$$!!

What (if anything) did you do about the broken hinge?

Ultimately I determined that I couldn't do anything about it.

Why am I seing ads from "sponsers" in place of posts?!?!?

Is the latch problem on the armrest common? I have a '04 with the 60/40 bench with the same armrest. Should I expect that to happen to me too?

I had a '99 with a broken armrest-it was the center consol with the bucket seats. A overweight friend of mine put all his weight on it while moving up in his seat and snapped it in two.

I knew someone who worked at a Ford dealer and he gave me his employee discount to get a replacement armrest and it ended up costing me $118. I then took it to another Ford dealer where the tech was kind enough to put it on for free(becuse I have no idea what Im doing when it comes to stuff like that)

If your problem is like mine on my 2004 model, then I super-glued the broken plastic around the hinge, then bolted a support under the front of the armrest (from the armrest down to the console door) to support the weight of someone leaning on the armrest. That has prevented it from becoming re-broken.
