Ok, I finally got a code reader. I was having the idle jump around and it back fired a couple of times. I pulled the codes and here they are.
636 KOEO
121 KOEO
114 KOEO
116 KOEO
10
122 CM
123 CM
128 CM
617 CM
Now where should I start? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Justin
Oh sorry its a '93 Bronco 5.8 115,000 miles XLT E4OD.
I was just looking at the manual a little more and found these code descriptions.
636 Tranny fluid temp > or < than expected
114 Air charge temp > or < than expected
116 Engine coolant temp > or < than expected
121 Closed throttle voltage > or < than expected
10 separation code
122 TPS too low voltage
123 TPS too high voltage
128 MAP (sensor and/or vacuum hose) inop
617 Tranny Problem ( 1-2 shift error)
All of the "voltage anomoly" codes are a condition usually resulting from electrical faults or weak connections. My 93 generated every voltage code possible in a period of one week from a dying battery cable that was causing massive voltage fluctuations in the entire electrical system. While each of the codes COULD represent an individual fault as a result of an actual fault in that system, its less likely that that many fault codes of similar type were all generated together. Check the voltage reference signal (VREF) from pin 26 of the ECA (main computer behind the passenger side kick panel). It should be an ORANGE/WHITE wire. The VREF should be approximately +5VDC. Any fluctuation in this voltage during normal engine operation is a problem because the computer uses CHANGES in this voltage FROM the sensors in question to determine engine performance and what adjustments to make. If the VREF is not stable, then the readings from the sensors will be adversely affected as well. The MAP sensor code could well be the same issue but to be certain, check the vacuum line to it and the electrical connector. Its mounted to the firewall visible between the A/C bulkhead and the passenger side of the upper intake plenum.
Um, its in that area... may not be right there inder the plastic panel but its there a little further under and up. Trust me, I had a 92 and currently have a 93. The remains of the one in the 92 fell out when the fire burned away everything that was holding it up there.
