Fuel Mileage

I just got back from towing a vehicle from Dartmouth, MA to Bristol,CT. It was about 308mi round trip. I averaged through the whole trip about 11 mi/gal. Is that normal?? That seems pretty low to me. I only have stock 245/70/16 tires on right now. I was pulling a 18' car trailer with a Jimmy on it. I just purchased a Hypertech Power Programmer III and i installed that before i took this trip. The truck just turned 58,000 mi. Everything else is stock on it. I was thinking about doing a K&N air kit. Does that actually increase fuel mileage?? Also while im thinking about it i went to turn my overdrive off and it stays off when the truck is in PARK but when i put it into DRIVE the Overdrive OFF light on the shifter turns off??? Any suggestions or comments on either things would be great. Thanks again

I average 9 mpg with my rig when towing the trailer.
Don't bother with the K&N. Go to www.fleetfilter.com and get a part number 46637 air filter and do this:

Does it work if you turn it off after you put it in drive?

Really doesn't sound too bad. But are you sure the 245/80/16s are stock? I could be wrong but I thought the 250s were all 235s. But either way I don't get much better than that ( 12-14 mpg ) with 37s at full tilt ( 75-?? ) when I can get away with it.

how often do you have to change that filter? Or can you clean it and reuse it?

most people who run that filter (including me) will change it at 15,000. some will go to 20,000. if you put the restrictionometer (LOL) in the end, such as what SpringerPop did, it may take up to 100,000 miles for that big of a filter to become truly 'clogged' to the point where its restrictive. at $20 a piece, replacing it every 15,000 is good insurance and peace of mind.
