Anybody know of a hot looking conversion kit I can buy to convert the drums to disc. I was hoping to find something that looks really good to put on a show quality ride. Also looking for a nice wood bed kit. Any suggestions? Ford truck Guy
Like John says, you can go much cheaper and get a wrecked truck that has what you need. You might also think about using a donor to convert over to power steering if it has it. Then you can ebay parts off the truck to make your money back, but it depends on your budget and schedule as to which route you take. Some folks just want to get the whole kit, which is a good deal, as it has everything you need and do the conversion in a days work.
I bought a $400 non-running 73 that had everything I wanted to put on my 65. Power brakes/steering, C6 and FE. I wound up using a different motor but used all the parts minus the i-beams.
This truck isn't my daily driver (although I drive it more now ). It has been over 2 years so I may be a little rusty on details.
Get all the brake parts from the donor- power booster, proportioning valve, spindles, rotors and calipers. Use what is in good shape and core the rest at your local parts store. Removing the old king pins is by far the hardest part. Once you get them out, the rest is gravy, in my opinion. Order new king pins for year of the i-beams, not year of the truck.
I would replace the brake lines from the Master Cylinder to the disks, hard and soft lines.
