Cam Phasers Clicking?

2005 EB Expedition. I notice a clicking noise when the engine is cold (lasts about 20 minutes) and when I am accelarating. I can feel it all the way through the throttle body. It doesn't happen at idle and it feels just plain wrong. I thought it was pistonslap, but from what I understand, that goes away fairly quickly. Anyhow, I had it at the service shop to repair a window motor and asked them to look at it. They said it is the cam phasers and that this is normal. After doing more research, it sounds like the cam phaser noise disappears after roughly 1000 RPMs, my noise gets LOUD at 2500 RPM. I've had people tell me it sounds like I have a bad valve or rod...FROM THE BACKSEAT it's that noticeable.

Should I take it for another opinion or is this accurate? I'm at 22k miles and am almost afraid to drive it in the morning it sounds so bad...

I have a 2005 Expedition XLT and have the same noise. I took it to the dealer and they said the same thing. Long term, if left unfixed, he said it could blow the engine. I am getting mine fixed and the initial cost was about $900. The service mentioned something that I had seen in other posts about Ford picking up some of the cost. So, this shouldn't cost me the full amount but a percentage - 20 to 30 percent. Not sure why it would happen so soon though. I've got almost 50k on mine and it just started. Apparently it seems pretty common which is both good and bad.
