My 72 Ford L700 is in need of serious work.
With 330,000 VERY hard miles on it, the 361 XD blew a gasket, with much smoke, noise and fanfare. It was scary. The crankcase is now loaded with coolant, and the engine runs but is nearly dead, only about 3 cylinders are firing.
Question -
Should I replace with a Jasper or similar engine, or rebuild the original engine?
I don't know if this is the engine that came with the truck from the factory. It appears to be, but could have been replaced at some time in the past.
The rest of the truck is solid, and is a workhorse that doesn't know when to stop. Really built far tougher than it needs to be, but that's a good thing!
I'd go ahead and rebuild it. It really isn't that much different than the standard FE rebuild. Just some parts differences. Might also be a good time to convert it to a 391, if you want to go that route.
