4 barrel on 2 barrel intake?
One of my neighbors mentioned this to me tonite. Is it possible to run a 4barrel carb on my 2 barrel intake? I don't think its possible, but I've been wrong before. This is a 390 out of a '71 2wd, and is now under the hood of my '67.
Thanks
Also - my 2 barrel is running rich, i leaned it out as far as I could and its still running rich, i'm assuming my floats are stuck, need some carb experts to tell me how to fix this. This is my first carbed truck in 5 years, so I'm out of the loop.
Thanks

I have a 4bbl on my 2bbl manifold. ANYTHING is better than that STUPID Autolite 2bbl. They are JUNK with a capital "J" and mine didn't run worth crap. I used a 2bbl to 4bbl adapter and put it on upsidedown. Now I have a smooth running Holley that didn't cost me a cent(I had it). Granted, yes, the performance is not "optimal", but it WORKS!

Not to disagree with Bear, he's right in every aspect, but...
If you have the parts laying around and their free, why not?
Long ago, and far away, with free parts, I put a Holley 750 vac-sec on my 360 2-bbl.
Like Freightrain said, ANYTHING is better than that stock 2bbl, my stock 360 (with headers) actually woke up a LOT. I got decent power up to 4000RPM or so... before, it was lucky to make 3500. While that doesn't sound like a big difference, there was much more torque left after 2000RPM than with the 2bbl.
So, it does work. It does help, especially if you have a free carb and the 2bbl is getting old - like when the throttle shaft bushings wear out.

I put a 750 vac sec carb on my 352!! Ya, I know wayyyy too big. Well, in two bbl mode it's a 375 cfm...right? So, it works great. Still gets 10 mpg everyday, idles smooth, accels great, and it was FREE since it was laying the garage.
With the price they want for the a new 2bbl Holley...I'll use my stuff any day!
I don't care how much identical it works....an old Autolite is still and old junk Autolite!!

those 2.5 flow 40's SUCK for sound. and do NOT sound mean. Now they are very good good mufflers but do not go with these for the mean sound. I just rebuilt my 390 with a 2 up cam for a good rough idle and the way it sounded is everything to me. I installed new 2.5 pipes and brand new flow 40 and the sound went down 4 fold. I am so dissapointed as you can tell.. now I'm out 200.00 bucks when I should have gotten a cheaper summit race muffles for 24 bucks a piece. I have a sound bit if you would like to hear my truck .Just my two cents.

I've had a couple different muffler configurations on my 390. The first came with the exhaust system (long story, had to be modified for headers). They were standard cheap-o turbo mufflers. They sounded real good IMO. Then, of course, one of 'em dropped a tube then they sounded horrible. So on the advice of the exhaust forum (members shall remain nameless) I got Magnaflows. I thought, gee, at $80 a piece they must be good! Well, they are in a can that looks like a muffler. Smells like a muffler. But what is it? A straight through glasspack design. Only they pack it with steel instead of glass. They sound, how can I put this, harsh. I think the standard turbo mufflers flowed better, since the truck seemed to have more power with 'em.
So what I would do if I had to do it again, is find a regular turbo muffler, and mount it as close to the headers as possible. That way water wont condense in it and rot it out like it did mine.
Good luck!

I think I am going to purchase a set of cherry bombs and try them as I only c-clamped my flows for this exact reason.I use my 53 ford f-100 only as a weekend cruiser from uh how do I say this Bar to Bar......and at the price who really cares if I need new ones next year if I like the sound. I am not looking for harsh but yet a good hard deep sound!!
