can i use a tilt steering column out of a 80's up truck in my 79 f250 4x4. i would like to have a locking steering wheel and tilt in this old truck. and if I can will the turn signal and switch be wired up to work correctly. thank you in advance
I've seen it done but not sure what/how it was done. The wiring is gonna be somewhat of a pain (time consuming anyway).I think the hardest part is going to be mounting the column and rigging the u-joint/ragjoint.But it is possible,if you have access to a couple trucks it should'nt be hard.Sorry I don't have the specifics.
1978 and 1979 Ford trucks are the only years from this era in which a tilt column was available, and mostly on pickups equipped with an automatic transmission and power steering. There is a tilt column for a floor-shift manual transmission truck...but they're extremely rare. If you ever find one in a salvage lot, GRAB IT!
Coachrob/Save yourself all the head aches of trying to modify a 80's tilt wheel. You can find the proper 78-79 tilt wheel on Ebay. Some times there bid up pretty high, but what's a little extra when it's a direct bolt up.Good luck
thanks guys, i have a 84 tilt column and wanting to install it mostly for the locking steering wheel. i know its mostly a faults since os securty but it all helps. thank you guys again
