Homemade locker

I have a dana 60 that grenaded on me. I broke one of the spider gears and the pin in it. The gears that have the splines are undamaged, would it be possible to weld them directly to the metal sleeves in the cast carrier ? Would the metal sleeves spin ? would the cast be weakened and break ? it see's about 99% off road. Am i just going to have a bigger problem later (cracked housing) Thanks

Solid axle is not a good idea, you'll tear it up pretty quick.

it would be the same as a spool pretty much, which makes it a bad idea if you drive it on the pavement.....plus its harder on axles and hubs....now ive heard of people welding the fronts, and just unlocking one hub until they need both front wheels....but thats just something i heard, i dont know how safe it is to do....

I don't remember off the top of my head if the sleeves spin or not but I know you can weld those gears directly to the carrier with no problems.

We call this a Lincoln Locker.

That is what I did the last time, it lasted for about 1 year. And by no means was I easy on the gears. It was just another cheap way to get me back for the weekend
