a week (500 miles)after i put a new engine in my dad's 78 f-100, i noticed an oil leak dripping out of the bellhousing at the bottom between the bellhousing and that metal "gasket" between the engine and bellhousing. it's not a lot it dripps for a few minutes after the truck has stopped then stops. to the best of my knowledge there shouldn't be any oil at all in the bellhousing. there is oil all over the outside of the bellhousing and some on the tranny. also the boot that covers the arm that engages and disengages the tranny is covered. i was wondering if any one of you has experienced this problem or have any solutions to this? i would like to know before i have to lift the engine out and check the engine and do something major. thanks for your time.
look behind the intake and see if its not the rear intake gasket, if theres no oil on the top of the bellhousing, it could be the rear cam freeze plug thingy, or rear main

the rebuilt engine i got i bought outa the paper and it had sat a long time.
it used to leak pretty good when i first put it in, especially after long trips.. then it would go away
i was sure the rear main was bad,
then it sorta just went away, i havent seen any oil in the driveway for awhile
