Turn signal switch

Hey,Hey

I have a bad one on my '70.The truck is just now finished but my brake lights are weak.Traced it to the turn signal switch.I see that the prob is the contact surface is wore bad.How do i replace this sucker?Do you cut the wires a few inshes from the plug and pull up through column?
Also, where does a man find a new one?I have a parts truck, will go up and check it's switch i guess??
Any temperary fixes?
THanks for any experience with this.

Turn signal switch

Spray some elec contact, or carb cleaner in the thing while working it, and see if that helps.

If that doesn't work, it's not hard to replace the switch. They're expensive, though. Expect to pay $50-75 for one. You don't need to cut any wires. Each of the wires can be released from the two plugs (one has 5 wires and an open space, and the other has 2 wires) under the dash by depressing the metal tips and sliding them out of the plug. That may seem like a lot of hassle for a switch you're throwing out, but you'll need to do it, anyway, to reuse the plug for the replacement switch.

Then attach one of the wires to a pull wire and feed them all up through the column and out. Attach the pull wire to the wires on your new switch, and pull them down through the column. Plug each wire into the appropriate place on the two plugs, reassemble the wheel, and you're done.
