exhaust advise
my truck-1970 ranger,LWB,360,manual 3 spd. .garaged all her life everything original and beautiful. only needs are rear seal and exhaust.
my question(for now ,lots more to come) is i want to add headers and duals.
from what ive been reading i am thinking about hookers 2 1/2" system w flowmaster 40's. i read i should use 14 guage and an 'x' crossover.
im not building a hot rod ,i do want performance and better fuel efficiency.and i plan on rebuilding the motor later in the year probably to a 390.
does this sound ok, is summit a good place to buy the parts? do i need to get headers for a tight fit or close fit?
thanks ,
larry
With headers the selection isn't like chebbies so your limited. Make sure you have the right application like "for 2 x 4 or 4 x 4" your years and possible sway bar clearance. I went with Thorley's before he sold out, 2 1/2" dual with X cross, O2 sensors to tune and finishing out with 4 1/2" tips. Check under spudly55 and gtex in the past as they posted a few photos of what I made on exhaust. I would get or better yet have from the X cross to the headers ceramic coated inside and out for heat retention, higher gas velosity and a cooler engine compartment. Soak the manifold bolts many days before removing as they will snap if forced, use anti-sieze on the new header bolts.
