I've noticed oil on the driveway recently beneneath the Superduty. Looks like it is coming from the oil drain plug. Do I need to replace this part on a regular basis? I've changed my own oil most of my life & never had an oil drain plug failure before. Freak thing or what?
Thanks,
Yeah I know, some kind of teflon or plastic washer....I've never changed one before. Are they supposed to be change periodiocally?
BTW Rob, I've seen 7700 on F150's....what is that?
gw
I've replaced a couple. But if it drips, that should take care of it. They get squished and ground every time you tighten and loosen the plug...
7700 is a payload option (group), it's the gvwr. The truck's have a heavier walled frame, standard 5.4 and 4R100, 10.25" diff, heavier springs... It's a regular duty F250. The easiest way to identify one is the 7 lug nuts. Other guys (in the 97-03 150 forum) can be more specific. I bought it because the folks selling it had know idea what it was (Owner passed). But I knew exacly what it was. It had (has) a nice Jeraco fiberglass cap with a custom made aluminum ladder rack (now off). It's an '01, I bought in '02 for $14,000, and it's a loaded S/C 4X4, leather, roof console, premium sound... Anyway, I love it.
the stock setup does not use a gasket. it gets torqued to 13-14 ft pounds. maybe you did not torque it down enough or too much. my 03 5.4 does not leak.
