Just put one on the wife's Sport Trac this weekend. Talk about an easy, mess free oil change. Just unscrew the cap, screw on the supplied hose, and drain it straight into the disposal jug. Granted, the oil drains slower than it would if you just pulled the drain plug, but if you've ever changed the oil in a 94-up Mustang, you know how much of a pain it is to keep moving the oil pan as the car drains. Best $12 I've ever spent on the vehicles. Gonna put one on my F150 this weekend. Wish I knew about this thing when I had my Mustang.
At the first oil change on every car that i've owned for the last 20 years i've installed one of these very handy gadgets www.fumotovalve.com. Might go with the sure drain next time. I've seen them at Walmart & they look pretty good.
Draining the oil without creating a mess has never been a problem on my vehicles, it's changing the darn filter that makes the mess! I now use a plastic shoppin gbag as a "glove" to remove the filter. It traps all the oil inside it.

I have one on my 85 F150 and used it for the first time a couple weeks ago. Works great! Drain the oil right into an empty used oil jug. No mess at all. It does drain slow but gives me time to grease my front end and u-joints. But I gotta be careful I don't forget to put the oil back IN the truck!

P.S. The one and ONLY thing on my truck that says FRAM!

Well, I guess it depends on how much you go off-roading. They only stick out from your oil pan about 1/2". Your regular drain plug probably sticks out around 1/4". I think if you knocked one off you are probably going to do damage to your oil pan as well anyway. They got a protective cap (dust cap) that is a nice addition as well (comes in the kit).
Mine took 30 min to drain 5Qts of 10w 30 on a warm day, but you never have to fish out your drain plug again. Droping the plug in the pan is a family curse I have from many before me.
I had one of the Fumoto drains on my Powerstroke. I liked it. I did a lot of off roading and never knocked it off, but it was on 35" tires too so........
Anyways, I hate Fram stuff so even if they made one for the Powerstroke (the part number their book shows is wrong) I wouldnt have bought it. Fumoto seems stronger anyways.
Like beast said, if you manage to knock it off while off-roading, the drain plug is probably the least of your worries. You'll tear up the oil pan at the same time.
i thought about getting one as well, however, like monsta said, ive never had a problem with that, its the filter that makes the mess. never thought of the plastic bag tho, good call on that. also, if you always drop your drain plug in the pan, try using vice grips/pliers to take it off the pan, it wont get dropped.
I also run 15w40, thats not thin like 5w30, so it would prob. take me even longer and i never usually drop the drain plug, so, i guess im not gonna waste moneys,
