Maybe you guys can help me. I'm in need of a new mattress and probably box-spring, as well. Do you folks recommend any certain brands? It seems that if I want something good that will last, I'll have to drop a lot of money for it. Can't seem to find anything really affordable 'round town (affordable being around $300 or less). Anyone try those air mattresses?
well i my wife and i got one of those temperpedic jobs about a year ago and it is great. i used to wake up soar all the time (back, sides, sholders) but not any more. it was like $2000.00 though.
i went with this http://www.simmons.com/products/bran...ep/Series2.cfm it was a good price and is pretty comfy. however i also tried out the temper pedic bed and WOW it is awesome. but also has a awesome 1,704.00 price tag. so i will have to wait for that. the deep sleep 2 was about 450.00 for twin size or 750 for cal king. the cheap 300.00 ones will last about 4 years then develop sags in the middle.
My wife and I bought the air bed from Walmart of all places. Not an air mattress but an air bed. Came with frame. It is dual adjustable (his and hers). It is really comfortable and it was cheap... had it 2 years now. We bought it 6 months after we where married, so it was "put through the paces" - if you know what I mean. We couldn't afford the temperpedic, but this is a gereat alternative. Just my $.02.
My wife has arthritis, and has always gotten up in the morning with back pain or worse, she wasn't even able to sleep for more that a few hours. I did a bunch of research, looked at tempurpedic, conventional and air matresses. Bought a select comfort mattress. I really wish I had done this years ago. I normally can sleep anywhere, my first nights sleep on this matress was incredible. My wife sleeps thruogh the night and gets up with no back pain.
If you are getting an innerspring mattress, Just get a middle priced one from whatever manufacturer you like. They all get the majority of their innersprings from Leggett and Platt. Leggett sells around 75% of the innersprings produced in this country. Those so called no flip mattresses are crap. Whatever you get I would suggest a pillowtop. All brands go from crappy to excellent depending on coil coint. Unfortunately I am a little out of the loop on who gets what for exactly what product line now because I no longer work in shipping and recieving. I am currently a maintenance mechanic at Leggett.
The key is to shop around and see what you like. I did a lot of mattress shopping here recently, and let me tell you... mattresses are always on sale, so don't let them rush you! I had the best luck at the local stores (not chain). When shopping for mattresses on a low budget, make sure you ask about scratch-n-dent models. Normally they'll sell it at almost half price. I bought a $750 (sale price of course) queen double pillow top for $350 because it had a dime sized hole in the mattress cover.
My mattress is a Simmons Beautyrest and it is wonderful. I do need a new one as this one is 20+ years old. For the price I think the Beautyrest's are good quality.
I bought a Select Comfort mattress when they first came out. Because of this, I don't have the pillowtop. To fix this, I bought a memory foam mattress topper from Costco. Between the two, I have finally set up a bed that is absolutely perfect for my almost impossible to satisfy back.
I looked in our local 'bargain finder' paper and found a lot of ads for new matresses. There also seem to be a lot of private people with a lot of beds. What I think they are is brokers for matresses that are returned within the 30 day trial period. Anyhow, I bought a Sealy perfect sleeper pillow top, queen size, for $500.00 Canadian. I am quite happy with it.
