I went out and looked at my fuel filter, I was looking for a way to train the water. I noticed that there is a 1/8" cooper tube that comes out of the bottom of the filter housing & runs down the side of the block for about 18" & then it ends. The tube is open and looks like a drain. Is it possible that it somehow drains itself? I didn't see a valve at the top of this tube.
On the bottom of the filter is the water seperator that you would need to take off the old filter and put on the new one when you replace it. The valve for it is about the size of a silver dollar on the bottom that you would unscrew to open (kind of like the bleed valves on brakes) I can't see mine unless I get my head in close under there but you should be able to feel it. The tube is what you thought it was to drain the water so it doesn't go all over the valve cover.
Anyone ever have a problem with the valve not turning open all the way? I'm getting about 1-2 full turns on the valve. I'm not even sure what direction to turn it to get it to drain. The Ford user maunual didnt say anything about filling the new filter up with clean diesel and this made it very hard to start. And as many of you know that you dont want to crank on the starter for long periods of times as it is very bad for them.
